1. Black Spout Wood and Waterfall
Woodland wandering with a beautiful waterfall.
Time: Around 1 hour at an easy pace
Just beyond the centre of Pitlochry, Black Spout Wood is an easy introduction to the dramatic landscapes that surround the town. The well sign posted path winds through woodland before arriving at a viewing platform overlooking Black Spout Waterfall, where the Edradour Burn drops dramatically over a 60metre gorge. The waterfall is particularly impressive after rainfall, while the woodland itself is worth taking your time over. Look upwards for birds amongst the canopy and a lucky few might even spot a red squirrel or some deer. You can return the same way or continue the loop through beautiful oak woods to the picturesque Edradour Distillery.
2. Clunie Footbridge and Pitlochry Dam
Waterside Views and an easy going adventure
Time: Around 1.5 hours depending on your pace.
This circular route goes past the Boating Station and across the nearby Clunie Footbridge, then around the River Tummel with views across to Pitlochry. Looping back over the Pitlochry Dam, which was constructed between 1947 and 1951, and offers spectacular views across the water then from here it is an easy walk back up to Pine Trees.
3. Faskally Forest
A quiet woodland escape
Time: 1-2 hours
A short distance from the hotel, Faskally Forest is a beautiful place to lose an hour or two amongst the trees. There are gentle paths to follow around the woodland and Loch Dunmore, with plenty of opportunities to pause. This spot is especially beautiful in September and October as the deep woodland shades change to a rich display of autumnal colours. It is also home to the Enchanted Forest every year, where the woodland takes on a rather different atmosphere after dark – a must see.
4. Pitlochry, Port na Craig and the River Tummel
A gentle wander straight from our doorstep
Time: Around 1.5 hours
Following Atholl Road down towards the Blair Athol Distillery and following signs for the Pitlochry Festival Theatre this route takes you across the Port-na-Craig suspension bridge and past the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Following the bank of the River Tummel and past the Salmon ladder this loop continues back across the Pitlochry Dam and into the town centre.
