The Joy of Doing Nothing

When was the last time you went away without a packed itinerary? No alarm. No rushing out the door. No trying to squeeze five activities into one day.
Just a slow breakfast, a walk when you feel like it, and an afternoon with nowhere to be.
At Pine Trees, you can make your stay as busy or as relaxed as you like. Spend the day exploring Pitlochry and the Highlands, or stay closer to home, settle into a cosy corner and enjoy a little time to yourself. Here's our guide to the joy of doing nothing.

Stories

1. Start the day your way.
Take your time over breakfast, order another coffee and enjoy having nowhere to be. When you’re ready, head out for a walk around Pitlochry, or find a cosy corner at the hotel and stay there for a while.
There’s no rush. You are on holiday, after all.

2. Take a walk with nowhere to be.
Pitlochry is surrounded by some beautiful walks, and you don’t need a full day or a detailed itinerary to enjoy them.
Step outside Pine Trees and take a wander through the surrounding woodland, follow a path into town or simply find somewhere peaceful to stop and take in the scenery.

3. Let lunch take its time.
Make lunch part of the day, not something to fit in between everything else. Settle into our restaurant, Fauna, and take your time over a menu inspired by the best of Scotland’s larder. Order something you fancy, pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy a proper catch-up.
No rushing off. No watching the clock. Just good food, good company and a little more time around the table.

4. Head into the afternoon without a plan.
After lunch, there’s no need to rush off to the next activity. Settle into a comfortable spot and stay there for as long as you like. Read a few pages, have another coffee or simply sit and enjoy the tranquillity of Pine Trees and the surrounding countryside. Of course, Pitlochry is right there if you fancy heading out, whether that’s a wander down the High Street, a trip to the theatre or a loch side stroll. Sometimes, the best afternoons are the ones left entirely to the moment.

5. Settle into the evening.
As the light begins to fade, there’s no need to think about what comes next, take your time getting ready for dinner, then head to Flora for a drink before settling in for the evening. Enjoy something from the bar, catch up over a glass or two and ease into the slower rhythm of the Highlands in front of a roaring fire.

The joy of doing nothing.
Perhaps that’s what we love most about time spent at Pine Trees.
There’s time to enjoy the things you don’t always have time for: taking the long way back from a walk, settling into a cosy corner, enjoying a drink at Flora Bar or sitting down to a dinner at Fauna with nowhere else to be.

So, when you next stay at Pine Trees, don’t feel like you have to fill every minute. Sometimes, the best part of a few days away is having nothing you need to rush off to.
